Sedan Delivery is a Neil Young Project. Of this we’re certain. Pete Bowers. Kevin Bowers. Rob Unger. Gary Rasberry. As Nazareth once proclaimed, ‘Loud and Proud.’ We get together to do Neil. Play his songs. Ya, so do a lot of people. But how many covers of ‘Old Man’ ‘Helpless’ and ‘Heart of Gold’ are necessary? If you’re going to cover Neil than have a plan that includes more than wearing lumberjack shirts and gnarly jeans, eh? Take a song and run with it. Trip. Fall. Get up again. Laugh. Snarl. Try to at least pretend Neil might not mind you messing with his music. Take Sugar Mountain and brew it into some kind of sonic concoction before you hit the onramp and find out your going in the wrong direction playing Powderfinger. Ain’t it funny how you feel when you’re finding out it’s real?

Well, anyways, if you love Neil than Sedan Delivery has half a shot at winning you over after a night. Maybe. Particularly if you like tequila too. Maybe roll a drum. Or another number for the road? All I know is that I had custom earplugs made for rehearsals. I also wanted to prove to myself that I could make a kid’s record and sing ‘Homegrown’ all with a good conscience.

Hey check out this really whacked video of Sedan Delivery playing at Blue Skies Music Festival in the Summer of 2011. It was taken by drummer Pete Bower’s 8 year-old son Skyler. I’m not sure what Skyler was thinking as he filmed us but it seems to me quite appropriate and fitting as a kind of impersonation of some guy on mushrooms at a Crazy Horse show in 1971.
