Gary William Rasberry is an artist, educator & parent. As artist-in-residence, he has worked and played at schools both near (Yarker, Ontario) and far (Barcelona, Spain). He offers songwriting and recording workshops for middle and high school students at Queen’s University and performs regularly in schools, libraries and community halls. His work with children is featured in two new live recordings, Gary Rasberry Live in Yarker and Gary Rasberry Live at Yarker Family School, released in March of 2011. Gary also writes and performs as a solo artist (Curving for the Coast was released in January 2007) and with the acoustic trio Fireweed who, over the past decade, have played Mariposa, Hillside, Blue skies, Summerfolk, Stewart Park as well as the Peterborough and Ottawa Folk festivals. His 2001 book Writing Research/ Researching Writing: Through a poet’s I is published by Peter Lang. As Though it Could be Otherwise, a book of poetry is set to be released in September 2011 with IdeaManufactory Press. Two short films, Painted Yellow and Black Letter Stammer based on spoken words pieces are available on DVD. His current recording project is a children’s record, What’s the Big Idea?!? to be released in 2012. Gary lives in The Old School House in the village of Yarker, Ontario with his partner Rena, his two children, Hayden and Zinta, and their two cats, Thunder and Zipper.
